  • Sweet Home Carolina
  • August 15, 2015

Last weekend I ventured down south to visit with my family in North Carolina. We were celebrating another revolution around the sun for my mom as well as an end-of-season party for the local softball team my dad, brother and many of my hometown friends play for. It was made extra special because it was the swan song season for my dad after founding the team in his college days. After a career that spanned over four decades, it was time to hang up the cleats and move on to other things. I brought my camera with me to capture the gorgeous land I grew up on as well as plenty of shots of my folks' new puppy, Murphy, who is now a gigantic beast. Check out this collection of shots taken of the center of my personal universe.

  • Murals of Bushwick - Part III
  • May 25, 2015

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood all Memorial Day weekend long up here in Brooklyn so I grabbed my camera and took to the streets of Bushwick to steal another round of photos for the “Murals of Bushwick” series on this site. From intricately detailed mythical creatures all the way to some of your favorite Nintendo characters, each mural tells a story of its own and speaks volumes through rich colors, textures and subject matters. The vibrant culture of Bushwick shines through brightly across the ever-evolving paintings that decorate its buildings.

Murals of Bushwick
  • Murals of Bushwick - Part II
  • April 20th, 2015

I've ventured out into my neighborhood once again and grabbed some shots of the awesome murals around Bushwick - which are quite many! I've only taken pictures of around 20% of the ones in my immediate area, too, so check back periodically throughout the summer for more updates to the collection. It has been really interesting to see how the murals evolve as well. There have been plenty of changes to the artwork over our first ten months in the neighborhood already and I'm excited to see what's in store for us now that the weather has gotten warm again. I shall keep you posted!

  • Thanksgiving at the Beach
  • November 30, 2014

Every other year my family spends Thanksgiving at the beach in North Carolina. We go there with another family with whom we are very close and we spend the week playing disc golf in the mornings, drinking beer and playing corn hole in the afternoons and kicking off dinner every night with a bunch of oysters and icy cold gin martinis. And then the real feasting begins. One day its a 20 hour smoked pork shoulder or a thanksgiving turkey from the smoker, shrimp and sausages and fajitas from the kitchen, and of course leftovers for days for lunch. It gets harder and harder to leave every time we go!

  • Meet the Sporks
  • December 1st, 2014

Please allow me to introduce you to the Sporks. This fun and friendly band of oh so useful utensils enjoy eating and drinking to excess and all other manners of enjoying the good life. Hailing from the distant land of Sporkchestershire, this rowdy bunch broke free of their moderate and tee-totaling heritage to enjoy our Chinese buffets, unlimited mimosa brunches and keg parties. Check back often to see what the Sporks are up to next!

  • Murals of Bushwick - Part I
  • October 25, 2014

The thing that cracks me up about photography is that you can take a picture of a beautiful piece of art and voila, now it's "your," art, too. While I am no way claiming these amazing murals have anything to do with me, I am happy to share with you some great stuff people are doing on the street. I moved to Bushwick only a few months ago, but the thing that has really stood out to me so far is the vast and eclectic array of really well conceived and executed murals. Here's a peek at what art a leisurely stroll through Bushwick has to offer.

  • Flying Rats

When I think of New York City, inevitably somewhere on the list of things that come to mind is your friendly neighborhood bird man. You know of Mike Tyson, you've seen the lady in Home Alone 2 - these people exist - and now, I have my very own. Some dreams do come true, after all. The balcony on my apartment faces the inside of the block and across the way lives the Bird Man. He usually either bare chested or wearing a three piece and always carrying a stick with a rag tied to it that he waves over his head to conduct the pigeon orchestra that is flying overhead in tight circles around the top of his building. I have no problem admitting that I thoroughly enjoy spacing out to watching these birds do their thing. Here are a couple of shots that I took one morning watching the birds get their exercise.

  • McMenamins
  • July 3, 2014

My sister-in-law got married in Portland, OR this past July at this really funky place called McMenamins where The Shining meets Woodstock meets good ol' Pacific Northwest vibes. The basic gist is that this place has a huge grounds complete with a massive hotel, a vineyard, a garden, a pitch and putt golf course, a hopping music venue, 6 or 7 small bars scattered through the grounds plus three restaurants and a spa with a warm wading pool. In other words, this place is a good test to see if you are generally a miserable person or not. If you can't feel good here, I'm concerned for you.
